Beef Rolled in Lemon grass

Let’s try going Asian. I’ve visited some festivals and I’ve encountered this dish and thought that you may find it interesting. Though you it might taste different since you may not be used to such taste but food enthusiast may actually find it good to explore different food stuffs. Try this out as ingredients can be easily seen in supermarkets nearby. It is actually a Vietnamese dish I found in an Asian Food Festival.

What you’ll need:

50 grams Beef Tenderloins

1 teaspoon oyster sauce

1 teaspoon Annato (it is a red food coloring which is also called roucou or achiote in English so you may know)

1 teaspoon Sesame oil

1 teaspoon Sriracha Vietnamese Chili sauce (this is what actually made this dish unique. You can find this on different spices’ stores nearby or you can still go for any chili sauce whatever suites you)

1 teaspoon sunflower oil

1 clove garlic

1 bulb shallot (it is actually small red onions which when peeled are seen like cloves in garlic)

2 lemongrass stalks

How to prepare:

  1. Thinly slice the beef tenderloins.
  2. Chop the garlic, shallot and lemongrass stalk into very fine pieces.
  3. Place the thinly sliced beef in a bowl together with the finely chopped ingredients, atsuete, oyster sauce, sunflower oil, sesame oil, and the Sriracha Vietnamese Chili sauce. Marinate meat for at least 2-3 hours to enhance flavor as meat absorbs it and tenderizing the meat at the same time.
  4. Wrap the marinated beef on the lemon grass and grill for 2-3 minutes on both sides.

You may think that this dish may be tedious to do but the time you need to marinate the meat can make you do other stuff to be able to go for the dish despite the busy schedule you may have.

Asians are known for different spices and healthy stuff. The ingredients are full of different healthy oils that are definitely a big check for your health. Sunflower oil and sesame oils promote your good cholesterol level and are high in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants good for cell regeneration.  The cooking process (which is grilling) frees you from worries of saturated fat which is acquired in frying. It actually reduces the unwanted calories as grilling allows food to be cooked by releasing the juice from the meat making it healthier while at the same time tasty. If you strictly obey the ingredients here, you can be rest assured that all are natural and free from synthetic food chemicals you may think of.

It can develop your taste in food as it opens your mind to a whole wide world of different dishes you can enjoy.
