Crispy Meat Pockets

This is one delicious snack you and mostly children would love. Crispy meat pocket is one recipe you can indulge yourself with as a treat or a snack for you and your whole family to enjoy. Meat plus cheese is one mouth-watering combination that is very hard to resist. If you have those freedom days in your diet where you can get to eat what you want without considering your diet, you may want to try this snack. This may not be as healthy as it seems but with the procedure and your creativity, you can still innovate and revised this recipe into something healthier by replacing other ingredients with good stuff.

What you’ll need:
4 cloves garlic (crushed)
1 pc large onion (sliced)
200 grams potato (diced)
300 grams cheese hotdog (diced)
⅓ cup raisins
¼ cup grated cheese
20 pc large thin pastry wrappers (or lumpia wrappers in Asian countries) (each cut into 3)
1 pc medium red bell pepper (diced)
½ cup Sweet Style Spaghetti Sauce

How to do:

1. Sauté garlic, onion, potato and cheese hotdog. You may opt to use olive oil or other healthy oils to sauté the said ingredients instead of common cooking oil or butter. Cook for 4 minutes with constant stirring. Add the sweet style spaghetti sauce. You may opt to create your own spaghetti sauce to be able to really capture your taste and make it healthier at the same time. Sweet style was suggested for kids as they normally appreciate sauces with a tinge of sweetness. Simmer uncovered for 5 minutes or until slightly dry.

img_21902. Add raisins and bell peppers. Cook for another 2 minutes just make sure not to overcook the bell peppers since you still have to fry the pockets at the final stage of cooking. Remove from flame then add cheese. Normally, cheese sold in the market has high in cholesterol but you can still choose healthy cheese such as cottage, string, Feta, Swiss and Parmesan in replace of cheddar cheese other risky cheese. These will still bring the delicious effect on your meat pockets.

3. Wrap a heaping tablespoon of mixture in thin pastry wrapper and form into triangle. Fry until golden brown. Drain on paper towels. Again you may use healthy oils or perhaps try grilling instead of frying it. In that way, you are sure to reduce your cholesterol intake.

The recipe would normally make 20 servings but would really depend on the sizes of the pockets you are to make. You can further explore this recipe by changing the meat used. You can replace hotdog with natural meat or poultry or even fish if you like which will reduce your risks of taking processed food. With all my suggested alternative, hope you can find one that will truly suit your taste and your health concerns. This is cheap and good to serve in parties as finger foods if you want to serve your guest something creative rather than fries or chips. This snack which may be not so healthy but can be made into one is something that you, your family and your guests would truly love. Enjoy!
