Eat for Longevity

Yes, it is better to have more life in your years than to add years to your life. But why choose when you could do both? Adding life to your years is up to your being brave, bold, and daring. Nothing you could eat or drink could make you as such. But in adding years to your life, what you eat certainly plays a major role. Find out what you should eat to live up to your hundredth birthday.

Start munching on some watermelon. Yes, tomatoes have long been the superstar for containing lycopene which efficiently fights cancer and heart disease. But what many people do not know is that watermelon actually has more of this amazing antioxidant than tomatoes. Eating watermelon also boosts the production of a certain amino acid that helps in keeping the arteries in good shape. Keep in mind that healthy arteries are a major factor in preventing heart disease. And if you have not heard, heart disease is the top killer among women. So, what could I say? Go, watermelons! I’m sure you want to get the most out of your juicy fruit. Then, start storing uncut watermelons on your counter instead of keeping them inside your refrigerator. They produce more lycopene at room temperature than in lower ones because room temperature permits the ripening to go on.

Also, it is time to have more of your asparagus, woman. Asparagus is rich in vitamins A and C which are powerful antioxidants that battle free radical damages to the body. Moreover, asparagus is abundant in the vitamin B folate which cuts the risk of heart disease and colon cancer. Also, asparagus is packed with glutathione which prevents premature aging and boosting the body’s immunity. To get the most out of your asparagus, quickly steam or stir-fry your stalks. The longer you cook your asparagus, the more nutrients it loses.

Make a toast to a long and good life with your glass brimming with red wine. Light drinking daily could reduce a woman’s risk of dying by as much as twenty percent. Yes, alcoholic drinks could lengthen your life, especially red wine. This is due to its resveratrol content which protects the skin from aging and could possibly protect the skin from skin cancer. And remember to keep it down to just one glass a day, whatever drink you choose. Drinking more than the suggested one glass a day could increase your risk of breast cancer.

And of course, try to eat more of fruits and veggies if you really want to live a long and healthy life. Antioxidants that are well abundant in fruits and vegetables could fight a handful of diseases and could protect the cells from aging. But this does not mean that you should stop eating the savory and undeniably delicious meat products if you do not want to. It is better to limit eating meat big time though. You could only have ones on special occasions. Also, opt for bison meat because it has much fewer calories than beef.
