With her numerous films where she played varying and interesting characters and actually nailing each and every performance, it is not that surprising to find that Meryl Streep is the Hollywood star with the most Academy Awards nominations in history with three dashing wins.   • Joanna Kramer in Kramer vs. Kramer

In this 1979 film, Meryl Streep starred alongside Dustin Hoffman where they play the part of a couple who fell apart because Ted Kramer (Hoffman) loved his work more than his family. Joanna Kramer (Streep) then decides to leave and Ted was left with all the household tasks and taking care of their son, Billy. When Ted finally learned to adjust, Joanna comes back with a court petition to gain the custody over their son. Kramer vs. Kramer gave Meryl the role that won Meryl her very first Oscar as the Best Actress in a Supporting Role.

  • Sophie in Sophie’s Choice

Meryl plays the role of Sophie in this romantic and sensual 1982 film where she starred alongside Kevin Kline. Sophie was a survivor from a Nazi concentration camp who fell for Nathan who was an American Jew who was obsessed with the Holocaust. Their love and happiness began to shake when Sophie was haunted by her ghosts and Nathan by his obsessions. This won Meryl her second Oscar and her first win as the Best Actress in a Leading Role.

Meryl Streep won her latest Oscar in the 2011 biopic where she flawlessly portrayed Britain’s first ever prime minister Margaret Thatcher. This film features the life of an aged Margaret Thatcher who imagines talking with her already dead husband as she struggles to deal with his death while reliving the scenes from her past.

Meryl gained another Oscar nomination from her role as the ruthless, cruel and successful magazine editor Miranda Priestly in this comedic drama The Devil Wears Prada where she cross paths with a simple and fresh graduate of journalism Andrea Sachs as portrayed by Anne Hathaway.

Meryl earned another Best Actress nomination for her role as the American housewife Julia Child who endeavored to be a cook and to publish a cookbook while in France. The film Julie& Julie shows the life of both Julia Child and Julie Powell who struggled carrying out the recipes written in Julia Child’s cookbook. Julie Powell was portrayed by Amy Adams.

This mysterious drama paved way to another Oscar nomination for Meryl Streep as the strict and iron-gloved principal Sister Aloysius Beauvier who accuses the tradition-defying Father Flynn of claims where she had no proof, and no doubt, which is why it’s called Sister Aloysius Beauvier in Doubt.
