We always celebrate the heroes and heroines, the legends, the lead characters. What we often miss are the great sidekicks, villains and friends these protagonists have. And in cases of weak lead characters, the supporting cast is what actually saves the day. Or better yet, the lead is just so good and the last they would need is an incompetent co-worker. As the majority of the world sets their eyes on who among Naomi Watts, Jessica Chastain, Jennifer Lawrence, Quvenzhane Wallis or Emmanuelle Riva would bring home the Best Actress in a Leading Role Award, let us take a moment and set our eyes on who would win the Best Supporting Actress Oscar statuette.
- Amy Adams as Peggy Dodd of The Master
Her portrayal of Peggy Dodd in the 2012 film The Master is already her fourth nomination in the Best Supporting Actress category. She has received nominations before in her 2012 film The Fighter, 2008 film Doubt, and 2005 film Junebug. Will this lovely and talented Enchanted star finally bring home the Oscar this year? Let us all find out on the 24th (U.S. Time).
- Sally Field as Mary Todd Lincoln of Lincoln
Portraying the wife of the great American president Abraham Lincoln earned Sally Field a spot in The Academy Awards 2013. This excellent actress already had two nominations before where she won both. She won her two dashing Best Actress in a Leading Role statuettes decades ago. Those were for the 1979 film Norma Rae and 1984 film Places in the Heart. She is also known to be the mother of Forrest Gump in the film of the same title which won several Oscars including the Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor. Does she still have what it takes to bring home an Oscar? And she did pretty well for leading roles, but did she performed just as good for her supporting role and win her third Oscar statuette?
- Anne Hathaway as Fantine of Les Miserables
She is Mia Thermapolis of The Princess Diaries, Ella of Ella Enchanted, Andy Sachs of The Devil Wears Prada, White Queen of Alice in Wonderland, Selina of The Dark Knight Rises, and many other characters we have loved all throughout the years. Anne Hathaway’s widespread fame has infected the entirety of the world. She is loved not only for her extreme beauty but also for her immense talent. In 2012, she flawlessly portrayed a lonely and miserable single mother in the film Les Misrables and nailed every minute of her onscreen appearance. She has already been nominated for a Best Actress in a Leading Role last Oscars 2009 for her film Rachel Getting Married. She comes back this year as a contender for the Best Supporting statuette.
- Helen Hunt as Sheryl of The Sessions
