Being happy is equal to a good state of emotional health. A lot more than the many benefits of being a happy individual, what really matters is that you must be happy because you only live once and you do not have being the otherwise, and most importantly, because you deserve it. Happiness is a journey, not a destination. Be bold and venture into that journey now.
To be happy, you should value your leisure time well enough. Or better yet, make room for your leisure. You should enjoy your life to the fullest. When you have free time, use to have fun instead of submerging yourself into more work. When you enjoy wasting your time, it is not wasted time.
Just like what Charlie of The Perks of Being a Wallflower decided to do in the end and tries to do all throughout the novel, participate. Do not simply be an observer, a wallflower. Experience life. Interact. Life experiences are priceless jewels that only could have and touch. Instead of just watching NBA, why not start playing basketball?
Also, do not be too hard on yourself. Never let your guilt consume you especially when it is unreal. If you feel guilty because you watched TV instead of doing a project, studying or working overtime, there is nothing to be guilty about. You do not need to feel bad when you have not hurt anybody. Do not let guilt consume you. You still have a life waiting to be lived.
Do not succumb to feelings of sorrow and loneliness. Everybody has his or her ups and downs. It is an inevitable part of life. You cannot win at everything. Whenever you feel sad or disappointed or frustrated, remember that it is natural and it is okay. But learn to accept it and free yourself from it. Remember that everything would be okay and that greater things await you.
It could be terrifying and nerve-wracking at first, but step out of the box. Get out of your comfort zone. Experience new things. Have the guts to jump from the refuge of safety and into the world of risks and endless possibilities. Who knows, you might find an even greater place. Just like with what is said in the film We Bought a Zoo, “Sometimes all you need is twenty seconds of insane bravery. Twenty seconds of embarrassing bravery. And I promise you, something great will come out of it.”
Seek for longer lasting happiness, those kinds that are not equalled by money. Instead of seeking sex, why not try to find, give and earn love and friendship? Instead of using money to buy clothes, why not buy a good book to read? Find things that would help you grow. That kind of happiness, it is priceless.
Be positive. It is all in the mind. When you compete or are trying to make something happen, believe that it would happen or that you would win. If you are thinking negatively in the first place, why bother putting your effort? Negative thoughts could greatly interfere with your output. Keep a positive mind.
