Love is an extremely wonderful, overwhelming and beautiful emotion that served as an inspiration to millions of songs, paintings, poems, novels and films. Tragedy, despite being a negative and sad event, is also viewed as something so profound and beautiful. But what if we get both in one? Here are some of the most heart-wrenching love songs we can choose to cry to whenever we feel like it.
- Everytime by Britney Spears
“And everytime I try to fly, I fall without my wings. I feel so small. I guess I need you, baby.”
Despite her reputation for performing songs with shallow and senseless lyrics, Everytime is a heartfelt offering Britney wrote herself. She wrote it for Justin Timberlake. It is how she is very much dependent on him and on his affections, that she feels like nothing if he is not around. It shows a very fragile and vulnerable Britney just wanting to be loved. How someone can feel so worthless when love leaves them is, in itself, a heartbreaking scenario. What more if you add deeply moving melody and the singer’s sincere emotions?
- Someone Like You by Adele
“Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead.”
Just like Britney’s Everytime, this was also dedicated to Adele’s former lover with whom she had an unhappy ending. It is about loving someone so much but that someone has already moved on and began to love somebody else. It is about how much you are hurt by the departure of the one you wholeheartedly loves and being left in vain and somehow hoping that you will find another person who will love you just like how he did before.
- Iris by Goo Goo Dolls
“And I’d give up forever to touch you.”
Iris is one of the soundtracks of the Nicholas Cage and Meg Ryan film City of Angels. It pretty much sums the movie up which is about an angel who fell in love for a human. The song tells the story of how much one is willing to give just to be able to let the person he loves feel that he in fact really does love her. It is an expression of how love could be the most beautiful and wonderful thing that could ever happen to you, that you would let go of everything you have and take every necessary risk for its sake even when it was not meant to be.
- The Scientist by Coldplay
“No one ever said it would be this hard. Oh, take me back to the start.”
This is a heartbreaking song about how the man is so sorry for every wrong he done that led to the end of the love he shares with the girl he truly loves. He was wishing that he could turn time and get back to the beginning and just avoid screwing everything up. The Scientist is a song of regrets and a picture of how our mistakes can sometimes pay prices we cannot afford.
