Taylor Swift has been a really popular artist especially among teenage girls. Not only is she a performer in her fans’ eyes, she is more of someone who they would love to be- beautiful, sweet and innocent. Aside from making fun and catchy music and being that dream girl with extremely good looks and a personality that is way too easy to love and adore, what may set Taylor apart from other young female artists is that her songs are the kind that most teenagers could fully relate to. One of the most common messages conveyed in a typical Taylor Swift song is about having feelings for someone who will never return the affection. Here are some of her songs that are found on that unrequited love page:
“In the middle of the night wakin’ from this dream. I wanna feel you by my side standing next to me. You gotta, come on, come on, say that we’ll be together. Come on, come on, little taste of heaven.”
This song is about falling madly and helplessly in love with someone you know you can never have. You see this someone as just a distant dream that appears to be impossible for you to reach. You are always stuck in hoping that the day will come when he will just be there by your side and hold you. You know that having him near you is just like getting a taste of heaven. It is not easy to fall for someone who seems to be not made for you to reach, to hold, or to even want. Yet, all you ever hope for is to have him.
- You Belong With Me
“Can’t you see that I’m the one who understands you? Been here all along so why can’t you see you belong with me?”
You Belong With Me presents the ever usual and clichéd scenario of a barely noticed typical high school girl who falls for his guy friend who is, in turn, in love with a popular chick. It talks about how this guy usually comes to her for advice or in times of sorrow when this popular girl upsets him, yet he never could let go of his love for this famous girl who does not care much about him as compared to his girl friend. And this perhaps nerdy kind of girl hopes all the while that the guy would soon realize that the one who will love him truly is just right beside him especially when the popular girl he loves is not.
- Teardrops On My Guitar
“He’s the reason for the teardrops on my guitar, the only thing that keeps me wishing on a wishing star.”
This is quite similar to You Belong With Me except that it does not emphasize the nerdy girl who fall in love with a guy who likes a popular girl kind of story. Yet, it is still about secretly loving a boy who has feelings for someone else.
“But if you only knew me, we could be a beautiful miracle, unbelievable instead of just invisible.”
Invisible is about having feelings for a guy who never notices you, and that guy has feelings for a girl who does not notice him either. You wish that this guy would just start seeing you and direct his affections for you so that you would have the love and happiness both of you deserved.
