We are all very aware that one of the main benefits of drinking milk is having strong and healthy bones and teeth. Its abundant calcium content improves the bone’s density. Having denser bones means being less vulnerable to fractures and having lower risk of acquiring osteoporosis which is a bone disease prevalent among the female population. Our deep need for calcium begins from the moment of birth up to the last stages of adulthood. It is highly important for us to have frequent and generous intake of milk from the moment of our birth and for the rest of our lives.

Calcium is not only beneficial for the bones and teeth. Calcium also contributes to the muscular and blood health. The remaining calcium not located in bones is found in the muscles, blood, and intercellular fluid. Calcium is important for muscular and circulatory functions in the body. It helps in the contraction phase of the muscles and helps maintain homeostasis. Calcium plays an important role in the contraction and expansion of the blood vessels. Once our body senses that the calcium in the blood is not enough, it would get calcium from the bones thus making them weaker.

Drinking milk is also found to install a unique kind of balance in the body. Milk is beneficial for the body in nature. It means it does not have to be processed to be able to provide nutrients the body needs. Also, it has the right proportion of carbohydrates and protein in addition to its calcium, phosphorus and Vitamin D contents.

Studies have also shown that those who drink milk regularly have the tendency to be thinner than those who do not. Not only do they have stronger bones but also healthier overall diets and are leaner. Today, obesity and obesity-related diseases are prevalent in a society of fast foods and processed goods. A beverage that is actually nature’s gift to mankind could help us deal with such health conditions. Not only does milk give many nutrients, it also replaces a person’s intake of unhealthy fluids like sodas.

The recommended amount of milk intake is three glasses a day. It has lower calorie content as compared with other sweetened beverages and is also low in sodium. It also contributes to keeping us hydrated because it is ninety percent water.

If you are lactose intolerant, you do not need to let go of the many good things milk has to offer. It is not an “all or nothing” scenario. It is actually dependent on how you consume milk and how much you intake.
