Women’s Health Problem on Irregular Monthly Periods

Normally, a regular menstrual cycle would occur every 28 -29days, that should be around 11-13 periods a year. However, it may still differ on every woman. Some would have 20 days or even 35 days per cycle depending on their lifestyles or their hormonal balance. As long as you have same number of days per period, that can still be considered normal. Women’s monthly flow or period on the average is five days, but there are still those women who have periods as low as 3 days or as high as 7 days but are still considered normal.

Irregular monthly periods can be manifested by late periods, early periods, bleeding between periods, heavy bleeding, scanty bleeding, missed periods, continuous period, and having two periods in one cycle. This occurs as hormonal signals become out of sync. Hormones such as estrogen and progesterone are kept in the hypothalamus, pituitary glands and ovaries so when signals tend to be out of place, monthly periods become irregular. This women’s health problem is not really very detrimental to human. More often, irregular monthly periods occur as a reaction of the body to sudden changes in the environment, lifestyle, food and others which will eventually goes back to normal when the body was able to adapt to the change.

The signal failure of hormones occurs when women becomes pregnant. When pregnant, body produces different level of hormones which even lead you to ending your period. Menarche, girl’s first period would normally take up to three years before their body could regulate monthly periods. As for those aging women, menopause causes change in women’s hormonal level such that monthly menstrual cycles are disrupted.

If your irregular monthly periods occurs for a year or more with missed periods and especially when experiencing cramping, heavy periods, dizziness, nausea and fainting, better consult a doctor or an ob/gyn practitioner to avoid complications brought by irregular menstrual periods.

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome affects 10% of women with irregular menstruation. PCOS occurs when low in progesterone that can lead to heavy bleeding. This can further lead to endometriosis, heart disease or ovarian cancer if not treated as soon as possible. Cyst is formed in ovaries thus, interfering ovulation. Symptoms are excessive hair growth, weight gain, acne, dandruff, high blood pressure and infertility.

Inflammatory Bowel disease is an inflammation in the lower intestines. This can cause weight loss, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. When severe, treatment would require hospitalization or surgery.

The solution to irregular monthly period would depend on the cause of irregularity. If you are just experiencing irregular period for about seven months, it’s still nothing to worry about and your body may be able to regularize your flow by itself. Reducing your stress level and proper diet will efficiently work on your period. Though exercise is good for the body, do not over exercise. Give time for your body to recover after workouts. If you have eating disorders, better consult a doctor to fix your problem and prevent further complications aside from irregular monthly periods. There are also some medical treatments to regulate monthly period. The use of hormonal contraceptives, hormone supplements and antibiotics (for infection) are used to cure any disorders in your cycle. For more assurance, you can always opt for medical consultations. Have complete physical examination and include thyroid function and blood pressure. Taking Complete Blood Count (CBC) will allow you to know if you are anemic to fully address your body’s need. Ultrasound is the easiest way to determine any irregularities in your reproductive system. You cannot be like microorganisms which reproduce themselves asexually, meaning out of their very own. For women, they are in charge of producing the egg. How does it happen? The red fluid that is commonly associated with blood and causes stains on your underwear, even up to your skirt is the sign that you are starting to become a woman with different health matters you have to consider. It may sound gruesome but this is the sign that you are now capable of giving birth to a new human being that if you want to have a child or children, this is something you have to work on.
